After careful consideration and discussion with my husband and Lou (Feeders), we have all decided to wipe the slate clean regarding a certain member in this group. No more criticisms from any of us unless he himself decides to provoke us in some way. The amount of time and effort expended in anger and frustration simply isn't worth it and we will accept him as he is for what he is and I say truthfully whatever that will be. On the whole, he seems ok, maybe a bit outspoken at times I guess but in retrospect aren't we all. My husband did end up with a much better job anyway, so perhaps our anger was unjustified. Therefore Ed, Lou, and I agree to disagree in certain ways regarding this member and we'll leave it at that.

Hi Lou! Good to see you on here! Thanks for backing me up as I know it wasn't easy being such good friends with Ed and all. I just felt that nothing was being accomplished and we were wasting our time, that's all. You remember when we used to own the horses and the one horse wouldn't train no matter what we did or tried and you do remember what we finally did with that horse? Anyway, I'm the amateur astronomer in the house as you know and Ed doesn't have much to do with it. We had to sell the scope when Ed lost his job, but now we're looking around for another. If you get a chance Lou fill me in on what's current. TTYL

Hi Nancy. You're welcome. It will take everything in my power to keep from saying anything further, but it will be done. I only backed off at your request, but bygones will be bygones. In a sense, I'm glad you're deciding to move on.
Prices aren't too bad. They carry their own brands and Celestron too. When I bought my first Mak from them a few years back, I was expecting the worst. Made in China, poor quality control, etc. However, I was pleasantly surprised and the quality is quite good. You've seen the Dob I have. It too is Orion and is a stellar performer, but there is a catch.... I ended up replacing the mirror with a Royce. However, if I were to do it again, I wouldn't have done it as the performance isn't that much better overall. Give me a call or drop a line here if you have any more questions. Also have Ed give me a call later as I want to talk to him about Sat. lou

Don't worry about it, Lou. A sore thumb always heals in time. Originally, I think I was the most upset between Ed and I. Ed really didn't care one way or the other.

I'll take a look at Orion. Heard of them, but never realized how much they've grown. The last I recall, they had a couple of scopes, a few eyepieces and that was about it, but that was a good many years ago. I yawn because it's getting close to bedtime. Did you get Ed's message?

More like a sore thumb on top of a sore thumb. At least to me anyway. Oh well.

No, did he leave it on the machine or was it a cell message? I'm going to call him later anyway. My only gripe with Orion is the fact that most of their stuff is Chinese made, but other than that they seem pretty good to deal with. My first Mak was returned three times until they sent one with good optics, so I can't complain. And they paid the shipping. Of course, that was some time ago and my understanding is that Chinese qa has improved in part because we've sent our people there to train them. Not sure about that, but I did order a pair of the Chinese 25x100 binocs last year and they were dead on in alignment, a stark improvement over my past experiences. lou
Pass the bucket! Rurp! It's like listening to one of those loud, one- sided, mobile phone conversations between a fat mummy's boy and his Feeder at the supermarket checkout. Rurp!

I can run but I can't hide. I was at a friend's house perusing SAA and there you were, full of forgiveness and conciliation-- unless I "decide" to provoke you in some way. You're never going to get this, but I'll reiterate that I am not going to submit my thoughts to you for censorship. I will continue to express my opinions where and as I see fit. Your notion that I "decided" to provoke you -- when I didn't know that you or Mr. Feeders existed -- smacks of some sort of paranoia. You had a personal problem and I provided you with the opportunity to externalize it, to blame it on someone.
I don't think that you get that I am _entitled_ to my beliefs; they are not a privilege. Whether anyone else agrees is irrelevant. Whether my beliefs are correct is irrelevant; I change my beliefs when I find that I have been wrong. The right-wing lie machine calls that flip-flopping; rational people call it doing the right thing.
Bearing in mind that I am not going to permit anyone to censor my thoughts, I once more urge you to kill-file me. This is SAA. I have _never_ posted anything of importance here. _No_ _one_ has ever posted anything of importance here. Passing interest, yes; importance, no. For importance you will have to look elsewhere.
I always post under the same identity, and my true name and a valid e-mail address appear on every post. Rather than take offense when people kill-file me, I make it easy for people to do so if they wish.
In addition to the usual filters for phony watches and the like I have kill-filed about 75% of the people who post here, including you and Mr. Feeders. Nothing personal in any case; I kill-file persons who I have found do not write things of interest to me. To me it is no different to not watching, say, a quilting show on TV. Nothing against quilts or the quilter; quilting is just not my thing. Ditto Dobs, eyepiece discussions, Celestrons, Meades, &c. Nothing against any of that, just not my interest. It shouldn't surprise anyone, though, that when someone carries on a 10-month vendetta against me for imagined wrongs (you will recall that I deny having caused GM's problems) I will kill-file that person even if they might otherwise have something of interest to write about astronomy.
I removed you from my kill-file for the purpose of reading and replying your post on my home machine. In a few hours you are going back into my kill-file. Nothing personal.

It's not forgiveness, it's agreeing to disagree, that's all.

You are allowed to express your opinion, yes, and so am I. That's why I decded to give up on my argument. You will never change in this regard and neither will I. I accept that and therefore won't be discussing the tempermental issues.

I have recently come to realize that there aren't as many days ahead as there once were and it's not worth sending my blood pressure soaring while trying to drive my argument into the next dimension.

No longer necessary. If you say something I don't agree with, in 99% of the cases I won't be responding. No more attacks from this end and my hardest task was convincing Lou to do the same, but he now agrees also. I am the amateur astronomer in the home and I am going to attempt to keep discussion centered on that.

Kill filing will no longer be necessary in either my or Lou's case, but feel free to do so if you must.

Nothing lost, nothing gained and no more high blood pressure. "Dr. Nancy's" orders!

Now you are beginning to make sense.
I wish you nothing but good luck and clear black skies.

Thanks, mind if I ask what kind(s) of scopes you use? Since Ed got a job, I've been starting to look around for another scope. I used to have a C14, but it was very old. Liked it, but way to big and no I didn't have an observatory so we had to set up regularly which wasn't fun. Something more portable, looking at maybe an 8-10" Dob, SCT, etc.

Having an observatory is everything. I'm a wannabe astrophotographer but it's an uphill battle in the Mid Atlantic, especially over the past two years. Clouds, light pollution, contrails from the east-coast fighter CAP (combat air patrols), smog, or all at once.
Yes, that's a certainty. We tried everything to make set up with the C14 easier. Ed and one of our sons used to carry everything into place at first, but then we were caught in rain several times. We would cover everything but there's something about the process that told us that such protection was never enough. Then Ed built a dolly/ cart based on some plans on the web. The idea was to set the entire scope and mount into place and just wheel it wherever we wanted to go. That turned out to be a near disaster when pushing across the ground on the first try and everything nearly "tripped". Ed had spent weeks making it, but it was still too top heavy and unstable. So we just accepted lugging everything back and forth everytime and of course I hardly ever used the scope as a result. If I settle on an SCT again, it will be MUCH smaller.
