I see Home Depot has a line of GE/Rheem gas water heaters: * 40 gallon, 6 year warranty, $488 * 38 gallon, 9 year warranty, self-cleaning, $498 * 40 gallon, 12 year warranty, self-cleaning, $578 Other specs seem the same. My question is, what does this self-cleaning mean, and is it likely that the extra bucks for the 12-year is a good investment?... más »

Painting basement walls and floor

I own an older(90+ years) home with a basement(completely unfinished concrete floor- concrete walls-quite a bit of wooden areas such as interior walls/posts/storage closets/etc) I am going to paint the floor and walls. I figured on using a gray color for the floors, but was unsure about the color to use for the concrete walls and wood surfaces.... más »

Again, this is a down flow furnace out of a mobile home. Just noticed it says "Sealed Combustion" and my insurance company said it's OK for me to use it in my garage. Down flow, so I'll weld a stand for it to sit up off the floor about 8". Question about flue exhaust and fresh air inlet. This is an 80% unit... más »

I just has a new heat pump and furnace installed and was asked if I wanted a service ageement. It included -Furnace/heatpump checkup (cleaning blower motors,burners, clean condenser coil, etc) -replace humidifier pad -replace Aprilaire filter -15% dicounts on repairs -no overtime charge This would be done twice a year at a cost of $256. Cutting melamine panel

I have a melamine-on-tempered-hardboard panel which is stuck to drywall with an adhesive. A section of the panel has been torn off. How do I cut the ragged, uneven edge of the section that is still on the wall so I can install a new section without a noticeable gap? (I don't have a circular-saw or a jigsaw)... más »
